马德里理工大学建立于1971年，是西班牙教育部的重点国立大学之一，学校的历史可以追溯到18世纪卡洛斯三世在位期间，学校的前身——高等技术学院是当时西班牙唯一一所教授建筑与工程的大学，因此可以好不夸张的说，西班牙的大部分科学技术都是由马德里理工大学建筑与工程学院铸就的。该校为西班牙的发展与进步、世界科学技术的推进做出了巨大贡献。
